A new highly sensitive method (detection limit: 4.1 ag spot^-1, sample volume: 0.4 μL spot^-1) for the determination of trace Hg²⁺ by catalytic solid substrate-room temperature phosphorimetry has been established in this paper. This method has been successfully applied to determine trace Hg²⁺ in water.
